Founded in 1965, the Center for Civic Education (CCE) is the world’s most influential non-profit organization
in civic education. With content developed by 2,000 scholars and teachers, CCE has educated more than 40 million
students in 70 countries in the values and participatory skills of democracy. Recently, the George Washington
Center has entered into an alliance with CCE to help extend its outreach to every part of the globe.
CCE has developed an experiential CIVICs curriculum called We the People. It is centered upon the Constitution
of the United States and is currently being taught in 22,000 schools to over 3 million students.
CCE has also developed a path-breaking program called Project Citizen which gives youth the opportunity to
identify a public policy issues of concern and try to bring about solutions through democratic process.
The program has been highly successful in nations such as Indonesia, china, India, and Bosnia. In order to
exponentially increase the impact of Project Citizen, the Center will use its expertise to leverage the scale,
scope, and power of digital technology and the internet by creating a web-accessible digital community.
This digital community will allow youth and their communities the opportunity to receive training, access content,
and share success stories from anywhere in the world.
